Please pray for this family

I don't even know these people. I saw a link to their story on a blog I read. It's such a sad, sad thing and they will be in my daily prayers now. Here's a link to their blog.

A sampler of July

These pictures pretty much encompass all of Esme's favourite things: playing outside with water, dirt (or sand) and bubbles; or hiding in her 'hou' (playhouse). She also loves 'dying' (drawing).

Reminder - Babies don't keep

I saw this on someone's blog today and it is a good reminder for those days when it feels like the house is grubby and I haven't been able to accomplish much because I have a little one with a mind of her own.

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Canada Day and other summer fun

Esme loves the hose, even when it's shockingly cold!

After hosing off, Esme felt compelled to get back into the sandbox

... and dunk her head into the sand (note the lovely ant crawling on her head)

Always ready to play with the sand

Happy Canada Day!

Shadows

Blowing the dandelion fluff (or trying to)

Where the fluff actually ended up :)

So proud sitting on an adult chair

Being soaked

Playing in the sprinkler

Thinking hard about something

Very serious as she hands me Daddy's tape measure that she's made off with

Walking around 'her' garden

More of the drenched baby eating dirt.. what can I say.. she likes to really get into the mud
